Rick and Morty Fedconnect

With almost two years in between new episodes, fans were dying for more Rick and Morty. So to keep the story going between seasons, Adult Swim turned to us to keep fans busy while they prepared for a secret April 1 episode drop.

We created “FedConnect,” a fun but mandatory tracking program created by the Galactic Federation to keep humans in line. We offered free probing, complementary blood replacements, and all the medication you can ingest.

But upon signing up, users hacked through the Federation’s shoddy infrastructure to find a hidden comms channel filled with Gromflomites, the lowest stooge in the galaxy.

In the channel, the Groms shared clickbait in the forms of essays, listicles, and animated shorts that showcased what was happening on Earth after the events of the season two finale. My partner Brian and I wrote and directed all 38 pieces of content in conjunction with the show team. Here are a few of my favorites:

Fans loved it. We had 2.2 million visitors throughout the campaign, reposts of our videos on other platforms gained millions of views, and Redditors created update guides to connect the dots. By the time the April Fools episode premiered, we had the Rick and Morty conversation at a fever pitch without saying a word.
