The Netflix Collection

Pizza-shooting tanks. Emoji tattoos. Tearjerkers starring Mr. Poopybutthole. And now, I can add Netflix-themed weed to my portfolio. To celebrate the launch of Kathy Bates’ new weed-centric sitcom “Disjointed,” we had the opportunity to create a line of cannabis based off of other Netflix original comedies.

My job was to pick the shows represented in the Netflix Collection, and come up with the names, descriptions, and strain types. My brilliant designer and art director peers came up with the branding, and Disjointed cannabis consultant Dr Dina worked with her network of growers and suppliers to bring the strains to life.

The line was released at Dr. Dina’s West Hollywood dispensary for one weekend only. We redesigned the space to match the set of the show. We also created a whole line of merchandise like pins, stickers and apparel to give away with purchase.

We received an insane amount of press coverage, from entertainment verticals like Variety and Rolling Stone, traditional newspapers like the LA Times and New York Post, marketing publications like AdWeek and TheSkimm, design blogs like The Dieline, and even the prestigious High Times magazine. Not to mention the support we received from the individual shows and influencers.

Seriously, I have pages of links talking about the Netflix Collection. It seemed like overkill to list them all.

The line was re-released in January to coincide with Disjointed’s second batch of episodes (and California’s legalization going into effect), with three all-new strains joining the collection. When David Fincher specifically requests a strain named Ed Hemper, you do what you can to make it happen.
